| | | Home | | Bowling Green State FalconsBowling Green State University is located in Bowling Green, Ohio about 20 miles south of Toledo. The university traces it beginnings to 1910 when it was chartered as Bowling Green State Normal School. The first class of students began in the fall of 1914. In 1927 the name Falcons was originated by the sports editor of the Daily Sentinel-Tribune. Bowling Green State was designated a university in 1935 with the addition of a number of new programs. Today the school has an enrollment of approximately 23,000. An on campus football stadium named Doyt-Perry Stadium seats 28,600. Bowling Green is 1 of only 13 universities in the country to participate in division 1-A football, division 1 men's and women's basketball, and division 1 ice hockey. The women's basketball team won three conference championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2007 they advanced to the "Sweet 16" in the NCAA tournament.
