| | | Home | | Boston College EaglesBoston College is a Jesuit Catholic University founded in 1863 by the Society of Jesus. The university opened in the fall of 1864. The university was originally located in Boston's South End, but 50 years later it had outgrown this location and moved to the present location in the Chestnut Hill area of Boston in 1913. The athletic name is Eagles and the team colors are maroon and gold. Boston College is one of only thirteen universities that compete in division 1 football, division 1 men's and women's basketball and division 1 hockey. Alumni Stadium located on campus seats 44,500, and Conte Forum seats 8,606 for basketball and 7,884 for ice hockey. When used for ice hockey it is called Kelley Rink. The university was a founding member of the Big East Conference, and in July of 2005 became a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Boston College has enjoyed a long history of athletic success in all the division 1 sports.
